Chemical Resistance – General Assessment
Tygon S3™ E-3603 is particularly well suited for a broad range of aqueous and inorganic media. The tubing demonstrates excellent resistance to many salt solutions, including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, nickel, and zinc salts. Diluted to moderately concentrated acids, such as sulfuric, hydrochloric, nitric, and phosphoric acid, as well as several organic acids, also show favorable compatibility. Glycols, glycerol, water, and various aqueous process media are generally well tolerated.
Compatibility is significantly more limited with organic solvents. Alcohols, ketones, ethers, esters, and both aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons are predominantly rated as unsuitable. Similar limitations apply to fuels and many vegetable, animal, and petroleum-based oils. Resistance may also decrease considerably with highly concentrated acids and strong alkaline solutions. Overall, Tygon S3™ E-3603 is best positioned for aqueous, salt-containing, and moderately acidic process streams rather than solvent-, fuel-, or oil-intensive applications.
